Roofing Services in Hillview

Hillview became a city in 1974, formed from parts of the Lone Acres, Overdale and Maryville subdivisions. About half of its homes went up before 1980, per Census survey data. The 1970s were the biggest building decade, with about three in ten homes. On houses that age, roof trouble often shows up first as a ceiling stain after a hard spring rain.

Dillon Roofing and Remodeling is a roofing contractor for the Louisville area, and Hillview is part of our service area. Here we handle roof replacement on older houses and roof repair after storms or plain wear. We look at the roof and put the quote in writing before any work starts. Hillview homes and the roofs over them

Hillview sits just south of Louisville on Interstate 65, in northern Bullitt County. The Bullitt County History Museum notes that northern Bullitt more than doubled in population during the 1960s. Within four years of becoming a city, Hillview passed Shepherdsville as the county's largest city. That growth spurt built much of the housing still standing here.

Census survey data counts about 3,300 homes in Hillview. Nearly nine in ten are single-family detached houses, and about four in five households own their home. Many sit on streets that branch off Preston Highway and Blue Lick Road.

A house built in the 1960s or 1970s may already carry a second layer of shingles. A roofer counts the layers and checks the deck boards before quoting a roof replacement. Each extra layer adds tear-off work, and soft decking has to be fixed before new shingles go down.

Do you need a permit for a roof replacement in Hillview?

Kentucky's residential code is the 2015 International Residential Code, with the state's own amendments. The state rule says single-family homes need no permits or inspections unless a local ordinance requires them. Hillview has its own building permit, so the answer starts with the city.

The city's building permit form adds a county step. It says Hillview cannot issue a building permit until you bring a compliance from Bullitt County Planning and Zoning. Before you hire a roofing contractor in Hillview, ask City Hall whether your job needs a permit. The city has the final word, and we point you there.

Hillview also has a property maintenance code with a section on roofs. It says the roof and flashing shall be sound and tight, with no defects that admit rain. The code lists a roof that admits rain among the unsafe conditions that must be repaired or replaced.

How the weather wears on Hillview roofs

NOAA's normals for the Louisville airport show about 48 inches of rain and melted snow a year. Spring runs wettest, and May tops 5 inches. Lows reach freezing or colder on about 74 days a year.

Freeze and thaw work water into worn shingles and cracked flashing. Ice can also build in clogged gutters and push water up under the roof edge. When a stain appears, roof leak repair finds where the water gets in and fixes it.

On March 3, 2023, the National Weather Service measured a 79 mph gust at Louisville's airport. Limbs over a roof add to wind damage. Hillview's code makes owners remove dead or diseased trees that pose a hazard. Public Works chips limbs for residents each week, weather permitting.

Roof drainage and new homes in Hillview

Hillview's code also covers where roof water goes. It says roof drainage should go to dedicated drainage easements, which the code places at the rear of each property. Roof water may not drain in a way that harms the lot next door. Public Works handles drainage and looks into complaints about improper discharge.

The same code says gutters and downspouts shall be kept in good repair and clear of obstructions. When they overflow, water runs down the walls and soaks the ground by the foundation.

Hillview keeps adding homes. The Census Bureau estimates 9,020 residents in 2025, up from 8,622 at the 2020 count. Census survey data counts about 140 homes built in 2020 or later. Builders can ask us about new construction roofing on new houses here.

How do building permits work in Hillview?
Hillview has its own building permit form. It asks you to bring City Hall a compliance from Bullitt County Planning and Zoning first. Whether a roof replacement needs a permit is the city's call, and we point you there.
How much does roof replacement cost on a Hillview home?
It depends on the house. Roof size and pitch set the base, and each old layer to tear off adds labor. Soft decking and the shingle you choose change the price too. We look at the roof first, then put the quote in writing.
Is Hillview part of your service area?
Yes. Hillview is part of our service area, including the Maryville and Overdale neighborhoods. We also work in nearby Bullitt County towns like Shepherdsville and Mount Washington. Call or text (502) 817-7791 to tell us about your roof.
When should a Hillview homeowner get a roof inspection?
Look from the ground after a hard wind or an icy winter for missing shingles and lifted flashing. A ceiling stain or damp attic insulation is another sign. Buying an older house is a good time too. Call or text us to set up a roof inspection.
Can a roofer's tear-off go in the Hillview city dumpster?
No. Public Works says the dumpster it opens to residents does not take debris from contractors. Ask how the old roofing will be hauled off before work starts. Get that answer in the written quote.
